OD FACE SEALS

A mechanical face seal or end face mechanical seal is utilized in rotating equipment, like compressors or pumps. During a pump’s operation, the liquid may leak out of the pump between the stationary pump casing and the rotating shaft. Because the shaft rotates, it is difficult to prevent this leakage. The end face mechanical seal employs both flexible and rigid elements to slide on each other, maintaining contact at the sealing interface. This allows a rotating element to pass through a sealed case. The elements are both mechanically and hydraulically loaded with a spring or other device to maintain contact.
