Custom Compounding
In the unlikely circumstance that PSP doesn’t have an existing material in stock, we can create one to meet the parameters of your application perfectly. Our engineers have unmatched expertise in understanding and interpreting SAE and ASTM material specifications. The factors that most affect lead times and cost in new compound development include:
- Material type.
- Application temperature range
- Length of exposure for material approval testing
- Any special regulatory requirements (UL , NSF, FDA, etc.)
PSP’s laboratories for compound development are fully accredited and as such, can supply prompt, credible test data. Following is a list of our laboratory equipment for compound development:
- Rheometer. (Measures curing properties.)
- Specific gravity meter. (Measures the material density)
- Temperature retraction tester. (Measures TR10, a critical low temperature sealability point)
- Tensile tester. (Measures tensile and elongation properties)
- Ozone exposure tester. (Determines susceptibility to ozone attack)
- PH probe. (Measures if solutions are acidic, basic or neutral)
- Low temperature brittleness tester (Measures ASTM D2000 low temperature brittleness requirement)
- Thermo gravimetric analyzer. (Useful analytical tool to determine compound component content)
- Durometer. (Measures material hardness)
- Oil batch testing. (Determines resistance to various types of oils)
- Multiple ovens. (Used in exposure testing, heat aging or compression set)
- Lab mixer. (Small mixer for laboratory batches)
