DuPont
Dow Elastomers will feature Kalrez® KVSP™ valve stem
packing systems and Kalrez® perfluoroelastomer parts at its
booth (#2038) at the Instrumentation, Systems and Automation (ISA)
conference and exhibition in Chicago Oct. 21 to 24.
Kalrez® KVSP™ can help to significantly
reduce fugitive emissions and improve process control to overcome
the deficiencies of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) and graphite
packing systems. PTFE can creep and cold flow during temperature
cycling which leads to increased fugitive emissions and graphite
systems can restrict valve movement causing inconsistent process
control.
The resiliency of KVSP™ provides improved
sealing for control valve stems to help keep emissions below 1ppm.
KVSP™ also improves a valve's ability to react quickly and
smoothly to process changes. KVSP™ helps to move a control
valve's performance closer to the ideal through low stem friction
and low deadband therefore reducing process control variability.
Recent interest in the poor, dynamic response
of control valves has resulted in a new ISA standard, and in the
development of simple calculation methods to determine the dynamic
requirement specifications for control loops and valves. Specifiers
of control valves who want to explore methods of calculating control
valve response should attend a technical paper at ISA on Wednesday,
Oct. 23, at 9:30 a.m. called, "A Method to Determine Control
Valve Dynamic Requirements" by Cullen Langford. Langford
notes that many process control problems are caused by poor dynamic
response of control valves. Control valves may respond slowly
and unpredictably and reduce the ability to control.
Basic calculations can explain control loop problems
and help solve frustrating process control loops. The method applies
to both new design and existing installations. Process basic data
and simple math provide the basis for the analysis. Langford compares
control valve packing systems including graphite, PTFE and perfluoroelastomer.
